These Shoes Are Made For Walking

I can’t emphasize enough how important shoes are. Imagine taking the ‘pyjamas plane’ at 5 in the morning to fit in a meeting somewhere in central Europe at 10 am same day. The plane lands and taxis to a gate more than 3 kilometres from where you have to pick up the hired car.

When you got up this morning, you hadn’t planned on this being a hectic day, but thank heavens for the Naot shoes you put on to walk confidently and comfortably through the day.

It’s a hot morning, with clear blue skies, sun glaring and the temperature already in the 20′s, with the forecast of more sunshine and heat to come during the day. Frustrated and stressed because the airline hadn’t booked you in the seat as promised, where your long legs fit and the breakfast was downright ugly to say the least. Things haven’t started on the right foot – so to speak.

You reach the airport security check-out point, only to find that the person three ahead of you has not remembered to declare and is holding up the long line of people waiting to arrive at their end destination on time. More waiting, more walking about waiting until it’s your turn. Time is running fast now. You have just 45 minutes to get through security, pick up your keys for the hired car and walk to the car compound where your vehicle hopefully awaits.

Foiled again. You’re hired car has been delayed and isn’t waiting for you in the compound. More waiting, more walking. You call and make your excuses for coming late to the meeting. Finally your car arrives. You hop in and drive away, forgetting to check the fuel.

Halfway through the tunnel, your hired car makes a last desperate attempt to reach daylight at the other end, but fails miserably. You remember seeing a sign a few kilometres back ‘last gas station for 5 kms’. Shoot – happy again that you put on those good walking shoes early this morning, you take out the fuel can and begin to walk at the same time calling and again make your excuses for arriving late to the meeting.

One hour and thirty minutes late, you arrive at your scheduled meeting, fatigued and stressed. No need for your speech or presentation. But still great you chose those good walking shoes this morning.
